General NYSUM Participation:
Adolescents must stay with a parent or guardian in the same room, including when participating in ministry outreaches.
For those wishing to serve in an NYC soup kitchen, the minimum age requirement is 14 years old.
NYSUM Campus Accommodations:
The NYSUM campus in Queens provides safe and simple housing for ministry teams, students, and groups participating in urban ministry training in New York City.
While there is no official curfew, anyone on campus grounds, in the parking lot, or inside the building must be in their rooms by 11:00 PM.
Quiet hours on all dormitory floors (2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors) are from:
9:00 PM – 6:00 AM
If you return to campus after 11:00 PM due to a late outreach or an evening out in the city, please go directly to your dorm room.
Between 11:00 PM and 6:00 AM, the following areas are closed:
- Lobby
- Lounges
- Meeting rooms
This quiet time allows all guests to rest and prepare for ministry activities the following day.
Ministry Outreaches & Training Schedule
NYSUM provides structured urban ministry experiences that combine training, prayer, and hands-on outreach throughout New York City.
Training and outreach activities continue throughout the day and usually conclude around 3:00 PM, allowing teams to return to the NYSUM campus at approximately 4:00 PM.
Nighttime ministry outreaches usually begin after supper and continue until approximately 11:00 PM.
Each outreach is designed to help participants engage with communities across New York City while gaining practical experience in urban ministry.
Meals at NYSUM
However, light snacks are allowed, including: Water, Soda, Juice, Chips, Granola bars
Teams are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and helping maintain a clean living environment for all guests staying at the NYSUM campus.

Transportation & Directions:
The NYSUM campus is located in Queens, New York, with convenient access to the New York City subway system and quick travel into Manhattan.
Once on the subway, travel time into Manhattan typically takes only 15–20 minutes, making it easy for ministry teams to reach outreach locations across the city.
These cards are available at subway vending machines and select retailers.
Key details about OMNY cards:
• The current subway or local bus fare is $3.00 per ride
• OMNY cards cost $1 to purchase
• Cards support 7-day fare capping (up to 12 rides) for unlimited travel You can also pay using a credit or debit card stored in your smartphone wallet. Simply tap your card or phone on the blue OMNY reader at subway turnstiles or on buses. The screen will turn green and display “GO” to confirm payment.
