Our Transformative Impact in New York City
For over 40 years, the New York School of Urban Ministry has partnered with pastors, churches, and ministries throughout New York City to bring hope, compassion, and practical support to those who need it most.
Through this partnership, we have trained over 150,000 urban leaders in “hands-on” compassion ministry—equipping them to serve their communities with love, faith, and action.
Here are a few ways NYSUM is making a tangible difference in the lives of the poor, the needy, and the disenfranchised:
Thanksgiving Dinners
Operation Drumstick
Every year, hurting individuals and families receive a warm, old-fashioned Thanksgiving feast, complete with roasted turkey, cornbread stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce, and dessert.
Pastors & Churches Served
NYC Ministry Partners
Through our network, NYSUM supports 325 inner-city pastors, churches, and ministries annually, empowering them to transform their communities with the love of Christ.
Lives Touched
Food Truck & Compassion Drive
Each year, we distribute 5,500 emergency blankets, 5,500 compassion hygiene kits, 5,500 bottles of water, 10,000 hot dogs, and 5,000 PB&J sandwiches, providing immediate relief and care to those in need. Hygiene kits include resources to local churches, shelters, and other resources for food, shower stations, emergency relief, etc.
Women Blessed
Extreme Makeover
We bring hope and dignity to over 800 battered women in NYC shelters each year with pedicures, manicures, and brand-new clothing, totaling $100,000 in gifts.
Children Dreams Come True
Toy Give-Away
Every Christmas, NYSUM distributes new toys to children living in city shelters, spreading joy across NYC.

Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway
Through partnerships with inner-city pastors and churches, we provide 1,000 children with backpacks and school supplies, empowering the next generation and fostering city-wide transformation.
